Yahweh, the Omnipotent One – Jeremiah 33:2

Growing with God: A daily devotional with Tonia Slimm.

Jeremiah 33:2 (NIV)

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name…”

Jeremiah 33:2 (MSG)

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name…”

********************************

“Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is His name…” -AMPLIFIED

“Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it: In this section there is a strong emphasis on the name Yahweh (LORD), the name of God emphasizing His covenant relationship with Israel. God will speak of His faithfulness to the covenant.” ~David Guzik

As we began Jeremiah, chapter 33, we found that Jeremiah was still in confinement, imprisoned, in the guard’s courtyard. We also found the Lord speaking to Him once again, encouraging him:

“While he was still confined in the guard’s courtyard, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time…” -Jeremiah 33:1 (CSB)

Today’s text is still part of the introduction to this chapter, and this Message from the Lord. In it we find the Lord, the Omnipotent One, reminding Jeremiah of His Power:

“The Eternal who made the earth, who formed and fashioned it, the One whose name is the Eternal, has this to say:…” -(VOICE)

We find the Lord not only identifying Himself as God, THE Authority, but we also find Him giving His credentials. This is to be a reminder not only to Jeremiah, but to all the people, that He, God Almighty, is ABLE to do exactly what He says He will do.

“I made the earth, formed it, and set it in place. My name is Yahweh. This is what Yahweh says…” -(NOG)

“Or, Thus saith Yahweh the doer of it, Yahweh who formeth it, that He may establish it, Yahweh is His name. The word “it” means whatsoever Yahweh wills.” ~Albert Barnes

The Lord had promised that Israel and Judah would one day return home, He would restore them. This will be of this chapter of this chapter, Israel’s restoration through the power and authority of the Lord. For He is the Mighty One, and all power and authority belongs to Him.

“The Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth—Jehovah is his name—says this…” -(TLB)

“The Lord introduced Himself as the Creator and Establisher of the earth. This was appropriate since He would say that He was going to do some things that required great power.” ~Thomas Constable

Our God is Omnipotent, All-Powerful, able to do more than we ask or think. Throughout Scripture we are reminded of His Omnipotence, His power and Authority.

1.) Nothing is too difficult for Him. “Look! I am the Eternal, the God of all living things. Is anything too difficult for Me?” -Jeremiah 32:27 (VOICE)

2.) Nothing is impossible for God. “So the impossible is possible with God.” -Luke 1:37 (VOICE)

3.) God holds all power. “For all power belongs to God, now and forever. Amen. -1Peter 5:11 (VOICE)

“There’s only one power in the world great enough to help us rise above the difficult things we face: the power of God.” ~Stormie Omartian

4.) God has overwhelming power, and He is great. “Our Lord is great. Nothing is impossible with His overwhelming power. He is loving, compassionate, and wise beyond all measure.” -Psalm 147:5 (VOICE)

5.) God’s Word accomplishes what He intends it to accomplish. “So it is when I declare something. My word will go out and not return to Me empty, but it will do what I wanted; it will accomplish what I determined.” -Isaiah 55:11 (VOICE)

6.) God is able to do more than you could imagine. “Now to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us, to Him be all glory in the church and in Jesus the Anointed from this generation to the next, forever and ever. Amen.” -Ephesians 3:20-21 (VOICE)

“The trouble is that we do not have the power of God in a full manifestation because of our finite thoughts, but as we go on and let God have His way, there is no limit to what our limitless God will do in response to a limitless faith. But you will never get anywhere except you are in constant pursuit of all the power of God.” ~Smith Wigglesworth

My friend, remember who it is that you serve, Yahweh, God Almighty, the One who is Omnipotent, able to do exceedingly abundantly more than you could ask or think. Will you trust Him with your today and your tomorrow?

“As holiness is the beauty of all God’s attributes, so power is that which gives life and action to all the perfections of the Divine nature. How vain would be the eternal counsels, if power did not step in to execute them. Without power His mercy would be but feeble pity, His promises an empty sound, His threatenings a mere scarecrow. God’s power is like Himself: infinite, eternal, incomprehensible; it can neither be checked, restrained, nor frustrated by the creature.” ~Stephen Charnock

My Prayer:

Adonai Elohim, my Great Lord, nothing is impossible or too difficult for you. You, the Creator of all things, have the power, authority, and ability to accomplish more than I could think of or imagine. Forgive me for those times that I have tried to put you in a box, expecting you to do things my way. Who am I, Lord, but the created one, while you are the Creator. Lord, do what you do best in your power and authority. Humbly I submit to you, the All-Powerful One and All-Knowing One, for I finally understand, Father knows best.
