Exodus 39:32 (NIV)
So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.
Exodus 39:32 (MSG)
That completed the work of The Dwelling, the Tent of Meeting. The People of Israel did what God had commanded Moses. They did it all.
“Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting was finished; and the Israelites did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses; that is what they did.” -AMPLIFIED
Chapters 36-39 of Exodus are all about Bezalel and Oholiab leading the people in the construction of the Tabernacle. The construction entailed not only the structure itself, but all the pieces that were to go into the structure once it was completed. This would include: Ark, the table, the lampstand, the altar of Incense, the altar of Burnt offering, the wash basin, the courtyard, and all the priestly garments; among many other items. Everything that God had instructed Moses in building and making is now actually going to take form.
Exodus 36:1 tells us all who were involved in the actual work of the building of the Tabernacle. “So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.” (NIV) If we have a God-given talent we have an obligation to use it for His glory!
Now remember, the people were supposed to bring their free-will offerings that were intended for God’s use to Moses in order to contribute to the building of the Tabernacle. Something amazing happened when Moses made this known to them. Scripture tells us that the people gave over and beyond. “Moses summoned Bezalel and Oholiab along with all whom God had gifted with the ability to work skillfully with their hands. The men were eager to get started and engage in the work. They took from Moses all the offerings that the Israelites had brought for the work of constructing the Sanctuary. The people kept on bringing in their freewill offerings, morning after morning. All the artisans who were at work making everything involved in constructing the Sanctuary came, one after another, to Moses, saying, “The people are bringing more than enough for doing this work that God has commanded us to do!” So Moses sent out orders through the camp: “Men! Women! No more offerings for the building of the Sanctuary!” The people were ordered to stop bringing offerings! There was plenty of material for all the work to be done. Enough and more than enough.” -Exodus 36:2-7 (MSG) In other words, “Stop! We have enough. Do not bring any more.”
The people worked long and hard on this structure which was to be the dwelling place of the Most High God. They did their very best work; following the specifications given to them by God. When they were finished Scripture tells us that Moses actually inspected their work. “The Israelites completed all the work, just as God had commanded. Moses saw that they had done all the work and done it exactly as God had commanded. Moses blessed them.” -Exodus 39:42-43 (MSG) Moses found that they had been faithful in all they had done; in their time, gifts and talents.
They did so well that Moses blessed them! This all is a reminder to us that whatever we are doing we need to do our very best; for everything we do should be done as unto the Lord. The Apostle Paul reminds us of this fact, “Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.” –Colossians 3:23 (MSG)
Those who remain faithful to the end will be saved and will receive the crown of life. Will you be found faithful?
Lord God, help me to remain faithful and true to you. I consider all that you have done for me; your love, your goodness, your forgiveness and your patience, and all I want to do is show you how appreciative and blessed I am feeling. Help me not to become weary in the waiting for your return, but let me be diligently using my time, money and talents to bring glory to your name. I am striving to do my best for you. I want to be found faithful, Lord.
